Heads of Mission joint statement on Tunisia: 10 December 2021<\/p>\n
As the Heads of Mission of the Embassies of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, the United States of America and the Delegation of the European Union in Tunisia, we strongly support the people of Tunisia in their pursuit of effective, democratic, and transparent governance.<\/p>\n
We reaffirm the importance of socio-economic stability in order to provide for the Tunisian people. We encourage, and stand ready to support, the swift implementation of the steps necessary to strengthen Tunisia\u2019s economic and financial situation, including those under discussion with international partners, to protect the most vulnerable, and to create the basis for sustainable and equitable growth.<\/p>\n
As Tunisia takes its sovereign decisions about economic, constitutional and electoral reforms, we restate the importance of respect for all Tunisians\u2019 fundamental freedoms, and inclusive and transparent engagement with all stakeholders, including diverse political and civil society voices, with a clear timeline allowing for a swift return to functioning democratic institutions, with an elected parliament playing a significant role. This will help to ensure widespread and lasting support for Tunisia\u2019s future progress. We stand ready to support Tunisia and its people in addressing the challenges ahead.<\/p>\n

Nous, chefs de mission des ambassades d\u2019Allemagne, du Canada, des Etats-Unis d\u2019Am\u00e9rique, de France, d\u2019Italie, du Japon, du Royaume-Uni, et de la D\u00e9l\u00e9gation de l\u2019Union europ\u00e9enne en Tunisie, soutenons fermement le peuple tunisien dans son aspiration \u00e0 une gouvernance efficace, d\u00e9mocratique et transparente.<\/p>\n
Nous r\u00e9affirmons l\u2019importance de la stabilit\u00e9 socio-\u00e9conomique du pays pour r\u00e9pondre aux attentes du peuple tunisien. Nous encourageons et nous nous tenons pr\u00eats \u00e0 accompagner la mise en \u0153uvre rapide des avanc\u00e9es n\u00e9cessaires au redressement de la situation \u00e9conomique et financi\u00e8re de la Tunisie, y compris celles qui sont actuellement en cours de discussion avec des partenaires internationaux, afin de prot\u00e9ger les plus vuln\u00e9rables, et de cr\u00e9er les bases d\u2019une croissance durable et \u00e9quitable.<\/p>\n
Alors que la Tunisie s’appr\u00eate \u00e0 prendre des d\u00e9cisions souveraines en mati\u00e8re de r\u00e9formes \u00e9conomiques, constitutionnelles et \u00e9lectorales, nous r\u00e9affirmons notre attachement au respect des libert\u00e9s fondamentales de l\u2019ensemble des Tunisiens, et \u00e0 un processus politique inclusif et transparent, impliquant une large participation des forces politiques et sociales du pays, suivant un calendrier pr\u00e9cis, pour permettre le retour rapide au fonctionnement des institutions d\u00e9mocratique, avec un Parlement \u00e9lu jouant un r\u00f4le significatif. Cela permettra de garantir un soutien large et durable aux progr\u00e8s futurs de la Tunisie.<\/p>\n
